While I was researching places to eat in Bangkok, I came across blog entries about Soi Polo Fried Chicken. At first glance it looked amazing, but after reading some comments on Instagram, it became less and less appealing so I crossed it off my list.
My boyfriend got sick in Bangkok and had no appetite for breakfast, so I decided to go grab some breakfast by myself. Turned out that Soi Polo Fried Chicken was walking distance from Okura Prestige, where we were staying, so I took a stroll down at around 9am.
I was expecting this place to be crazy crowded but there was no one when I arrived. Perhaps an odd time to be there…
I ordered what seems to be the most standard dishes- the half fried chicken, papaya salad and glutinous rice.
It took less than two minutes for them to bring me the fried chicken so obviously they pre-fry the chicken. The chicken was flavorful and moist, but the skin was not as crispy as I had hoped. I guess the mountain of fried garlic covering the chicken satisfies the crispy component. I didn’t think I would be able to finish everything but it was surprisingly not too heavy. The glutinous rice was not that great- seemed a bit dry from sitting around.
Overall I enjoyed this meal, especially as my breakfast. I wouldn’t rave about it being one of the best fried chicken I’ve eaten, and I think it’s slightly different from what people picture when they think of Thai fried chicken? But if you are close by it wouldn’t hurt to stop by.
