As soon as I arrived in San Francisco, my friend started raving about the crab at “RnG Lounge (sounded like “Orangey Lounge” to me… and I didn’t express any interest at first) so my first dinner there was in Chinatown. This was back in October when dungeness crabs were not quite in season yet, but they were still so plump, meaty, juicy and sweet! Apparently everyone who lives in San Francisco has had this salt and pepper crab at R & G Lounge… It’s extremely reasonably priced too. I actually went back here for the crab the day before I left San Francisco… I must say that chili or black pepper crab in Singapore tastes better, but the quality of the crab is different. If I could eat these dungeness crabs with sauce made in Singapore, I would be in heaven. The insides were a bit bitter and not that tasty but I couldn’t stop thinking about the succulent flesh! This place gets very crowded so it’s better to go earlier to avoid waiting.
Also ate winter melon soup, which I hadn’t eaten in years! One of my favorite soups- very light yet flavorful.
Our crab dinner was also accompanied by stuffed eggplants (minced shrimp) and rice.
